Companies that buy gold obviously buy gold in order to make money on the resale.  Most pay only for the scrap gold content and some pay as little as 30% of scrap value.  Some outfits pay nothing for the diamonds contained in the jewelry and they are resolved to maximize profit margin on every purchase they make, they are waiting with baited breath.   Unless you’ve owned it for decades it is highly likely that you will lose money on higher quality fine jewelry.  However if you have scrap gold, dental gold or lower quality jewelry that you just never wear it might make good sense to sell it with the high gold market we've been witnessing. We can help determine what items should or should not be sold for scrap..  Higher value “estate” jewelry should never be sold for scrap.  We occasionally  accept estate jewelry for consignment  in an attempt to maximize the cash price for the client. We do pay cash for gold but we are not in the business of hustling people out of their valuables.  If you plan to sell gold it would behoove you to visit a bona fide jeweler.   It is important to know exactly what you have before selling it all for scrap.
